New Agent Success in Real Estate: The Journey of Tolga Demirag at RE/MAX Turkey

Marion Pfeffer
Marketing Manager at REMAX Europe

The first year in real estate can feel like a sprint in every direction: learning the market, chasing leads, and wondering when things will finally click. But momentum doesn’t have to take years to build. With the right mindset, daily habits, and a focus on relationships, you can create results from day one.

To see what that looks like in action, we spoke to Tolga Demirag of RE/MAX Turkey, one of the fastest success stories we’ve seen. Tolga shared how he built his business so quickly and the practical advice he wishes every new agent could hear.

Q: Tolga, you made a very fast start after joining RE/MAX, what was the key to your early success?

Tolga: Honestly, it comes down to discipline. I’d started a business before joining RE/MAX and that taught me to be very results-oriented. Then I managed a manufacturing plant, and when you’re running a production line, everything has to be on time and at a high standard. So that’s where I really developed my mindset of operational excellence.

But the good news is, these are habits anyone can develop. Setting clear goals, staying focused, and following through will get you results in real estate too. For me, that structure didn’t just help me get started—it still drives how I work every single day.

Q: So what does that discipline look like in your daily routine?

Tolga: I start every morning with a detailed plan, and I really try to stick to it. That helps me use my time efficiently and stay focused on what matters most.

I also make it a point to spend time each day researching market trends and new innovations—staying informed means I can give my clients better advice. And networking is part of my routine as well. I keep in touch not just with clients, but with other professionals in the industry, too. That’s what keeps my business active and moving forward.

When you build those habits early, you set yourself up to avoid a lot of the mistakes that can slow new agents down.

Q: What are those common mistakes you see new agents making, and how can they avoid them?

Tolga: A lot of new agents overlook technology and digital marketing. Today, your online presence is one of your most important tools, so don’t wait to start building it.

Another big mistake is not doing enough market research. The market is always changing—prices, trends, demand—and you’ve got to keep up if you want to guide your clients with confidence.

But the biggest mistake? Focusing only on transactions. If you’re just trying to close deals, you’re going to miss the chance to build something that really lasts. It’s strong relationships that create long-term success.

Q: What’s your secret to building client relationships?

Tolga: I’ve always taken a customer-focused approach—that’s how I was able to build a portfolio so quickly. For me, it’s not just about completing a transaction, it’s about creating a real bond based on trust and honesty.

I try to understand my clients’ expectations, concerns, and goals—and to really listen to them. I want them to feel like I’m a partner in their dreams, not just a consultant. And I don’t stop communicating once the deal is done. Staying in touch shows them that I value them and that I want to be part of their future plans, too.

In the last few years, I’ve also had the chance to work in Sudan, which really opened up my global perspective. That experience taught me just how powerful it is to connect with people from different cultures and backgrounds, and how finding common ground can build trust even faster.

Q: So how do you stay motivated through challenges?

Tolga: When things don’t go as planned, I remind myself why I started this journey and think back to the goals I set on day one. I try to see every challenge as a learning opportunity, as something that makes me stronger.

I also make it a point to celebrate small wins along the way, because that’s what keeps me moving forward. And I talk to experienced consultants in my office and my broker/owner, Çağrı Aşan. He’s the one who encouraged me to take this step into real estate, and seeing his success still inspires me to keep going whenever I hit a setback.

But here’s my advice for new agents: don’t expect overnight success. Patience and perseverance will be your greatest allies. Every “no” you hear is just one step closer to the next “yes.”

Tolga’s journey proves that early success in real estate isn’t about waiting for the right opportunity, it’s about creating it. The agents who plan their days, stay informed, and put relationships first are the ones who build lasting businesses.
